Lionel is the owner of The Old Rectory. Lionel worked for Katharine Hamnett for 14 years, becoming design director in 1992. In addition to his experience of designer labels, Lionel worked as the creative director at Reiss, with responsibility for both men’s and women’s design teams and all the creative departments.
Deborah grew up in a village on the outskirts of York. She graduated from Leeds College of Art & Design in 1997 with a BA (Hons) in surface pattern & textile design. She went on to graduate from the Royal College of Art in 1999 with an MA in constructed textiles. Over the years, Deborah has been commissioned to design wallpapers for a wide variety of clients including Polydor, Lacroix, Reebok, Paul Smith, the De la Warr and Selfridges. Deborah is now a local resident living and working in St.Leonards on Sea.
Melissa runs her practice from her Workshop in Hastings on the Sussex coast of England. Working largely to commission, she creates bespoke pieces for private homes working directly with the client or via interior designers, architects and art consultants. She also works with the heritage, retail and hospitality sectors. Melissa draws on diverse and ever changing influences for her designs and is best known for reproducing Elizabethan wall paintings and painted cloths.
Colin Booth lives and works in St Leonards on Sea. He works include painting, sculpture and installation and in recent years has exhibited widely throughout the UK. In 2010 he undertook a major commission for the V&A Museum of Childhood in London and in 2011 he had a large survey show at the Laing Art Gallery in his hometown of Newcastle upon Tyne. His works are available for purchase.
Shaun Brosnan lives and works in London and has exhibited widely throughout the UK, Spain and internationally with 2 one man shows in Tokyo, Japan. He has work in many private collections and a piece in the Herbert Museum, Coventry. He works mainly to commission, in 2011 he undertook a major commission for the Mayor of Moscow. Born in Manchester in 1954, Tobit spent his childhood in Hong Kong, Canada and India. Tobit divides his time between London and Hastings and travels frequently to India. He has exhibited throughout the UK over the last 20 years. His works are available for purchase.
Louise trained in Fine art-painting and graduated from Nottingham University in 1996. Based in St Leonards on Sea, Louise creates her designs by using a combination of drawing, painting and photography. Her designs often have a feeling of nostalgia, she uses personal experiences and objects in her designs such as Marney's Lace (lace she inherited from her grandmother) shown in our Cobourg room.
Self-taught, Bill can turn his hand to anything and would make a great forger. Ageing and distressing furniture, painting ‘fake’ floor boards, trompe-l’oeil wall panels, His skills can be seen throughout the house and garden.
